Privacy
Open Caption processes speech on your iPhone. The app has no account, analytics, or advertising.
Microphone and captions
When you start a caption session, the app uses the microphone to turn speech into text on the device. It does not save an audio recording. Saved transcripts and preferences are stored on your iPhone. To remove a saved transcript, open Settings → History and delete the session. You can turn off microphone and local network access in iPhone Settings.
Nearby displays
If you connect a nearby iPhone, Open Caption sends caption text and audio level readings over an encrypted connection between the devices. The receiving phone can save the transcript in its own history. A display name is visible to nearby Open Caption devices while you use Display Only.
Sharing and support
If you share a transcript, the destination you choose receives the text. If you email support, we use your address and message to respond. The website uses Vercel for hosting and does not include analytics scripts.
